Within the framework of the protocol signed between BOTAŞ and General Directorate of Forestry; planting operations in the afforestation areas at BOTAŞ Silivri Operations Directorate (200 thousand m2), Tuz Gölü Operations Directorate (100 thousand m2) and Tekirdağ (900 thousand m2) began.
Within the scope of the project, a total of 115,000 trees will be planted; 10,000 of which is to the afforestation area at BOTAŞ Tuz Gölü Operations Directorate, 20,000 of which is to the afforestation area at BOTAŞ Silivri Directorate of Operations and 85,000 of which is to the afforestation area in Tekirdağ. Most of the afforestation works have currently been completed and the remaining part will be finished within this year. The planted trees will be maintained by the General Directorate of Forestry for 5 years.
Afforestation works in the Tuz Gölü Operation Directorate area are carried out in coordination with Aksaray Forest Management Directorate. In the first stage, eleven different kinds of seedlings were planted in 9.46 ha of the expropriated area of Tuz Gölü Operations Directorate and 3,11 km of barbed wire was placed for protection from animals. Within the scope of the project, approximately 8000 seedlings were planted, kinds and numbers of which are as follows 650 cedar, 550 red pine, 500 cupressus arizonica, 990 almonds, 1,053 oleaster, 900 tamarisk, 350 English oak, 350 sophora, 740 ash tree, 900 acacia catechu, 900 (atriplex) salt bush. The concerned project is considered as a pilot project and in line with the results to be obtained, it is planned to afforest the parts of the approximately 150 ha expropriated area suitable for afforestation. Once all phases of the project are completed, over 100,000 trees will have been planted.
