Within the scope of the project, 121 km. away from the Hirfanlı Dam pipeline with fresh water, after the solution has the same density as the water character of the Tuz Gölü (Salt Lake) and discharged into the Tuz Gölü Basin in the driest region of our country and the water level decreasing from year to year to increase the level of water and ecosystem contributes.
Tuz Gölü Special Environmental Protection Area hosts the largest flamingo natural breeding colony of our country. The Tuz Gölü Natural Gas Underground Storage Project contributes to the expansion of the appropriate areas for the flamingos to reproduce by increasing the water level of the Tuz Gölü.
Within the scope of the research and monitoring of flamingo populations in Tuz Gölü Special Environmental Protection Area carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization General Directorate for Protection of Natural Assets, 11,079 flamingo pups were identified in 2016 and 9,589 in 2016. In the field work carried out in May and June 2018, direct observation, aircraft, drone, binoculars-telescope-tele lens and so on. 12.746 flamingo pups were detected in the observations made with the vehicles. It is seen that this number increases regularly every year and flamingo offspring leave the Tuz Gölü in the autumn by completing their healthy development period.
