BOTAŞ's Sustainability Activities

Within the scope of energy efficiency works launched in December 2018 at BOTAŞ;

  • In order to raise awareness, a large number of trainings were given to the staff of the corporation, and  "Energy Management and Energy Efficiency Workshop" was organized.
  • Old cooling/heating/ventilation systems in all builidings of the corporation were replaced with high energy efficiency class equipment.
  • Old lighting equipment in all buildings of the corporation were replaced with led lighting with high energy efficiency.
  • Electric motors located at pumping stations were replaced with energy-efficient motors; maintenance and repair of the pumps not curently in use was carried out.
  • The highest energy consumption throughout the corporation is due to compressors used in natural gas transmission. With the optimization studies carried out there, approximately 34% saving was achieved in the energy consumption of the compressors.
  • Sheathing was applied in buildings, doors and windows were replaced with thermally insulated ones.
  • Solar panels were installed on the roof of the Headquarter building and at oil pipeline valve stations.

SPP(Solar Power Plant) with a capacity of 1MW was installed in Tuz Gölü Under-Ground Natural Gas Storage Facility. In addition, installation works for SPP with a capacity of 7.4 MW and a WPP (Wind Power Plant) with a capacity of 5 MW have started.

Energy Savings Achieved

With these works; when  the change over the years in the total amount of energy consumption consisting of the consumption of energy sources such as natural gas, electricity and fueloil is studied; it is observed that , the total consumption of approximately 373 thousand TOE (Tons of Oil Equivalent) in 2017 decreased by approximately 28.1% by the end of 2019 and 105 thousand TOE energy was saved.

In this way;

562.7 thousand tons of carbon emissions are prevented and this number is the equivalent of 80 thousand trees.

In addition;

The use of 114.75 million Sm3 natural gas or 488.3 thousand tons of coal or the use of 105 thousand tons of oil equivalent natural resources was prevented.
