Türkiye Poised to Become LNG Bunkering Hub

 

With the confidentiality agreement signed among BOTAŞ, Arkas Petroleum and Sumitomo Corporation, one of the largest holdings in Japan, the parties agreed to cooperate on the use of LNG as bunker fuel for sea-going vessels.

With the trilateral agreement among BOTAŞ, one of Türkiye’s largest companies in energy transportation, trade and storage in Türkiye, Arkas Petroleum, a leading bunkering company in Türkiye and Sumitomo Corporation, a global trading company specializing in LNG operations around the world, growth of the use of LNG as bunker fuel is targeted. Türkiye is very well located in order to be one of the largest marine fuel hubs for vessels passing through the Eastern Mediterranean.

BOTAŞ Breaks New Ground Again

“BOTAŞ, which operates 23.000 km of national and international pipelines, Silivri and Tuz Gölü Natural Gas Underground Storage Facilities, Dörtyol FSRU and Marmara Ereğlisi LNG regasification terminals in accordance with international standards and with “being the most environmentally-friendly public institution” motto, is one of the largest players in global energy market. The introduction of the first LNG Bunkering service in our country and the establishment of an 'LNG Bunkering Hub' in line with our policy that supports the use of more eco-friendly bunker fuels in seas are great new steps for BOTAS, which is a pioneer in introducing new practices, and for our country." said Burhan Özcan, general manager of BOTAŞ.
