Türkiye and Bulgaria Ink Natural Gas Cooperation Agreement

 

With an official ceremony held on January 3, 2023, an agreement envisaging cooperation in natural gas area was signed between Türkiye and Bulgaria.  Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez, Bulgarian Energy Minister Rosen Hristov, BOTAŞ General Manager Burhan Özcan and Bulgargaz General Manager Denitsa Zlateva attended the ceremony. The agreement was signed by BOTAŞ General Manager Burhan Özcan on behalf of Türkiye and Bulgargaz General Manager Denitsa Zlateva on behalf of Bulgaria.

In his statement after the ceremony, Minister Fatih Dönmez, said he hopes for 2023 to be a year in which cooperation between the two countries, particularly in energy area, further increases.

Minister Dönmez also said, “The agreement is an important step in increasing the natural gas supply security of the entire Balkans. The duration of the agreement is 13 years and there will be a gas transfer of up to 1.5 billion cubic meters per year. It will make a great contribution to the natural gas supply security of Europe, and especially Bulgaria.”
