While President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, landmarks agreements were signed in the energy sector.
In line with its long-term supply plans and strategic objectives, BOTAŞ has inked two more landmark LNG supply agreements in addition to the LNG agreements for approximately 15 billion cubic meters of natural gas equivalent it concluded during Gastech 2025.
In this context BOTAŞ, accompanied by Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, signed long-term LNG supply agreements with Woodside Energy and Mercuria. The signing ceremonies for the agreements were held at the Türkevi in New York.
BOTAŞ and Mercuria Sign 20-Year LNG Agreement
BOTAŞ and Mercuria, one of the world's largest independent integrated energy and commodity groups, have signed an LNG sale and purchase agreement. The long-term LNG supply agreement, spanning 20 years, was signed by BOTAŞ Chairman of the Board and Managing Director Abdulvahit Fidan, and Mercuria President Daniel Jaeggi. Under the agreement, deliveries are expected to begin in 2026, with a total supply of approximately 70 billion cubic meters of natural gas equivalent LNG, amounting to approximately 4 billion cubic meters per year.
Deliveries, mainly in winter seasons, will begin in 2026 from US loading ports and could be shipped to regasification terminals in Türkiye, Europe, and North Africa.
Preliminary Agreement with Woodside Energy
The other agreement is a preliminary one between BOTAŞ and Woodside Energy for a long-term supply of LNG which will commence in 2030 and last for 9 years. Under the agreement signed between BOTAŞ Chairman of the Board and Managing Director Abdulvahit Fidan and Woodside's Chief Executive Officer for International Operations, Daniel Kalms, approximately 5.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas equivalent LNG is planned to be supplied to BOTAŞ, primarily from the Louisiana LNG Project in the US.
Global Gas Agreements
BOTAŞ continues to increase its influence in the sector and make a name for itself globally through the agreements it has recently concluded and infrastructure investments made in line with Türkiye's vision of becoming an energy hub.
Through these strategic agreements and partnerships BOTAŞ strengthens its role in the global LNG trade while significantly contributing to our country's long-term vision of supply security, price stability, and resource diversity.
