Held under the auspices of the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez and attended by several representatives from the energy sector, BOTAŞ Sustainable Energy Summit, was broadcasted live on YouTube on January 15th.

In 2023 We Will Produce 100 % of Our Electricity by Ourselves

In his opening speech of the Summit, BOTAŞ Deputy General Manager M. Talha Pamukçu said BOTAŞ was operating 23 thousand kilometers of high pressure oil and natural gas pipelines; hence Türkiye’s 81 provinces and approximately 600 districts have access to natural gas.

Noting that significant progress was achieved in the field of energy efficiency as a result of the energy management practices stared in 2017, Mr. Pamukçu said “As of 2023, we will produce 100 % of our own electricity”.

A Self Sufficient Energy Management System Has Been Established

Since 2017, activities related to energy management have been carried out one-to-one and simultaneously in all units of BOTAŞ. Within the scope of these works, we have established our own energy teams. In addition, a self-sufficient energy management system in energy was created with outsourced services.

A New Page in LNG Investments

Mr. Pamukçu emphasized that they have the capacity to deliver 339 million cubic meters of gas per day with the projects realized and being worked on, and that they aim to increase this to over 400 million cubic meters; and he said:

“With the 4-year investment move, significant progress has been made in terms of pipelines and LNG. We aim to bring the third FSRU facility to our country. This will be a new addition to the investments made for LNG.

Energy Efficiency Investments Will Continue

Since 2017, energy consumption has decreased to 200 thousand TEP (Ton Equivalent Oil) with energy efficiency works in BOTAŞ. Thanks to the energy management practices we have started in 2017, we achieve our energy efficiency targets.”
